Todays Qantas QF63 operated by B747-438 (ER) VH-OEI c/n 32913 from Sydney to Johannesburg arrived Perth at 13.21hrs on a tech stop due to a volcanic ash cloud covering an area over the Southern Indian Ocean in which the aircraft may have flown through could have compromised the safety of the flight. The aircraft continued on its journey departing Perth at 14.59hrs for Johannesburg.
