Qantas Airways CEO Mr Alan Joyce announced today the grounding of the entire Qantas Airline fleet of aircraft indefinately in response to union's ongoing industrial actions against the airline.
The airline is at loggerheads on 3 fronts with unions representing pilots, ground staff, and licensed engineers over on-going pay, work place conditions & the outsourcing of jobs overseas.
Qantas will lock out all its employees covered by the agreements that are currently in dispute.
Mr Joyce confirmed that all domestic emploees involved with the dispute will be locked out effective from Monday night 31st October 2011.
All aircraft will be grounded immediately after completion of operating there last sector.
Mr Joyce said "We are locking out until the unions withdraw their extreme claims & reach an agreement with us", this is a very hard decision....we have no alternative.
The lock out will commence at 8pm AEDT Monday.
