Qatar Airways delayed QR900 flight Friday 29th August 2014



Today's scheduled Qatar Airways flight 'QR900' operated by B777-3DZ (ER) A7-BAW msn 41741 operating from Hamad Intl Airport (OTAA) Qatar to Perth Intl Airport (YPPH) diverted into Bandarainke Intl Airport (VCBI) Colombo Sri Lanka en-route with what was believed to be an issue with one of the aircraft's wings.

Replacement aircraft B777-3DZ (ER) A7-BAU msn 41739 was dispatched from Doha and arrived into Colombo (VCBI) as flight 'QR3260', before then continuing onto Perth operating as flight QR900, arrived at 04.04hrs Saturday 30th August landing RWY21.

The outbound return flight QR901 departed Perth Airport off RWY21 at 07.13hrs with an expected flight time of 10hrs.24min flight to Doha.

  1. According to my son who was on board, passengers were told there were indicator lights not working.

  2. We were on the flight and the pilot said that an indicator was showing a problem but didnt say what the problem was. We were sat over the wing though and had a very nervous flight attendant watching the left side wing like a hawk. All the flight attendants looked very nervous to be honest we were very glad to land in Colombo despite the obvious inconvenience with being delayed for 10 hours on what is a long flight already.

  3. A medical emergenc on landing was the final straw. We didn't get home till 6.00am - no sleep for me that night. For every passenger there are those waiting with insufficient information.

  4. PS my son thought they said indicator light or switch but he may have been wrong. At least could see on Flight Radar that the diversion and subsequent flight were controlled which was a help.
