Asylum seeking capsized boat off YPXM rescue flights ex: Perth

Several aircraft were dispatched from Perth Airport today ferrying specialized forensic police to Christmas Island after a suspected illegal asylum seeking boat filled with up to 200 persons capsized approx 100 miles North of Christmas Island (YPXM) in the Indian Ocean.

Pearl Aviation operated AMSA Dornier 328:100 VH-PPG msn 3053 departed at 14.35hrs via Learmonth to Christmas Island; Fortescue Metals Group BD-700-1A10 VH-FMG msn 9105 departed at 18.02hrs. WA Govt operated Hawker 850XP VH-MQY msn 258807 operated Perth via Learmonth to Christmas Island offering assistance as required.

RAAF AP-3C Orions operating as 'Sea Lion 57',63 and 'Rescue 252/3' are also used in the searching of ocean for survivors operating from Darwin and from Learmonth.

Royal Australian Naval vessels HMAS Larrakia and HMAS Wollongong are also playing an effective role in the rescuing of survivors.

Avwest CL-604 VH-VRE msn 5561 departed 04.29hrs to Christmas Island (YPXM) and returned to Perth landing at 16.24hrs.

Fortescue Metal Groups BD-700-1A10 VH-FMG continues to operate from Christmas Island (YPXM) and returned to Perth this afternoon landing at 17.11hrs.

Our Airline B737-3YO VH-INU msn 23684 arrived 13.26hrs ex: Christmas Island (YPXM) as flight 'RON901' and departed at 16.40hrs returning as same.


22.06.12:

Avwest CL-604 VH-URR msn 5439 departed at 06.27hrs to the region this morning and is noted to be operating into and out of RAAF Learmonth.

Fortescue Metals Group BD-700-1A10 VH-FMG msn 9015 is also assisting operating from RAAF Learmonth.

Gandel Investments BD-700-1A10 VH-TGG msn 9143 departed at 12.19hrs to Christmas Island to assist with the rescue, after overnighting the 'GLEX'  arrived  back into Perth at 18.55hrs 23/06.


RFDS Hawker 800XP VH-RIO msn 258594 departed 08.54hrs to Christmas Island (YPXM) via Learmonth (YPLM) and returned to Perth landing at 18.30hrs LT; Pearl Aviation operated AMSA Dornier 328:100 VH-PPF msn 3057 operating as 'Rescue 461'.

Our Airline B737-3YO VH-INU msn 23684 operated PER-DRW-XCH-PER as flight 'RON902'.
